University East London in collaboration with School of Law conducted a short one day course of International Law and Human Rights. Dr. Barry Collins, Senior Lecturer at University East London and the Director of the esteemed LLM Program was the instructor for the Course and presented an interactive discussion on the notion of Human Rights and International Law.
The course had been divided into four concise sessions:
- Session One: Human Rights in the International Legal Order: Origins and Context.
- Session Two: Human Rights at the United Nations – International Conventions and Institutions.
- Session Three: Regional Human Rights Systems
- Session Four: International Human Rights in the Twenty-First Century; Current Debates and New Directions.
A total of fifty five delegates attended the course, which resulted in an argumentative research based discussion on Human Rights at the regional level. A powerful documentary, Suffering in Silence, followed these sessions, which not only moved the delegates but also induced a spark amongst the crowd to work for the better future of our local Pakistani community.
